Here are a few things that Lou and I experienced this summer of 2003 "on the lot":

We learned how to live for an extended period of time (29 over-nights) in a pop-up trailer lent (and delivered!) by the very generous Mr. John Nicoli:

No electric, no running water on site; many trips to nearby national forest parks to pump water and so on--none-the-less, the "tuna can," as we called it, certainly provided surprisingly roomy, comfortable accommodations:

Wisconsin Public Radio, "oldies" and "polka band" programs, and reading, reading, reading, ended each evening before sleep.  Most overnight lows were in the upper fifties, most daytime highs were in the high seventies to lower eighties.

When we first got up north near the end of June, the lot's driveway was complete; these three views together display its 320-some feet from the road to the edge of the worksite:

We had a huge pile of trees collected from the clearing of this driveway, despite our excavator's careful path selection to have the least impact on our little woods; here's the pile, reduced in half, by days of work:

Lou and I had to quickly learn the ins and outs of our Stihl Farmboss; we swapped out dull for sharp chain blades seven times this summer:

We also replanted trees, cleared some of the old fallen trees, and dragged old stumps and debris from the water front without otherwise disturbing our slice of the little lake's natural buffer zone (the Jeep got a workout!):
